Learn to Dive

Are you interested in learning to dive ? Why not come along to meet us at the Purbeck Sports Centre, Wareham, on Saturday 11th February 2012 where you can have a go at scuba diving in the swimming pool and find out more about our club. All equipment and full instruction will be provided.

About Us

We are a small friendly BSAC diving club based in Swanage, Dorset. The Isle of Purbeck is not a true island but actually a peninsula on the south coast of Dorset; Swanage is a lively coastal town, popular with visitors all year round. So we're lucky to be based right in the heart of not only beautiful Dorset countryside, but also some of the best south coast diving there is !

As a club we have a very active dive season with at least 3 boat dives scheduled every week from May through to October. We dive out of either Swanage itself, or Kimmeridge Bay, just a short distance along the coast.

Diving

We have a unique online dive booking system which allows our members to see all the dives planned for the coming season and book on them as they wish. With our own club boat, as well as three others owned by members which are useable by the club, we have plenty of spaces to accommodate everyone. On this site you can see our DIVE PLAN which gives you an idea of the varied diving we do. Depths vary from shallow dives of around 10m in Swanage Bay, to deeper dives of 30m+ to explore local wrecks such as the Kyarra or the Aeolian Sky.

In addition to this, our dive bases of Swanage Pier and Kimmeridge Bay also offer the opportunity of shore diving; Swanage Pier may only be 3 or 4 metres deep but even experienced divers continue to visit; it is so abundant in many different species of marine life, there's always some gem to be found.

Training

Every year we run try-dive sessions at Purbeck Sports Centre, leading on to the BSAC Ocean Diver training course. Much of the open water training dives take place in Swanage Bay, which has depths to around 15 metres. We also offer training to Sports Diver and Dive Leader level as well as arranging other BSAC skills courses, for example, oxygen administration. Click on the Training link above to find out more.

Social

Once the diving season is over, things don't end there ! We have an active social club which allows members to stay in touch over the winter months. Our saying is that as well as being a diving club, we are also a dining club as we enjoy meeting for regular meals until its time to get wet again.

We are a friendly crowd and would love to hear from anyone who would like to join IPSAC. We also welcome guest divers of all abilities, from BSAC or other agencies; its always great to meet divers from around the country and over the years we have established friendships with guest divers who continue to visit us year after year.
