Brrrr !

So here we are in December already, wet and windy weather to go with it; how envious some of us are of those about to set off to sunnier climes where warm clear water awaits them ! Have a great time, those of you jetting off to the Red Sea; hopefully you’ll have some stories and lots of photos to share on your return.

Our next main event is our annual Christmas Party on 8th December; see below for more details, then once Christmas is out of the way we have several ideas pencilled in for you to keep us entertained until the dive season starts again.

The new look website is nearing completion, we’re hoping it will be ready for the new year.

Update ... what has happened in the club since the last newsletter

Meal at Gurkha Restaurant

The first of (hopefully) many monthly meals, proving that we do like dining as much as diving, took place on 1st November at the Gurkha Restaurant in Sandford. We were delighted with the turn out; over 20 members turned up to sample the oriental buffet and much curry, noodles (not to mention the Gurkha beer) was enjoyed by all ! Thanks to everyone who supported this.

Wanted !

Does anyone have any old postcards featuring shipwrecks off Portland ? A friend of Chris’s is looking to buy some.

Pool Sessions

The full face mask kit made its first appearance at the pool last week and several members had an chance to try it out. Please don’t forget the pool sessions; it may not be every members’ idea of a Saturday night out but its a great opportunity to have nice quiet swim as well as a natter between lengths at the shallow end.

Come and try it

Unfortunately numbers for the planned try-dive on 2nd December weren’t viable. Nick will be running two further Come and Try It nights in the new year, so please keep any eye/ear out for anyone who may be considering starting diving. Further details of dates to follow.

New Years Day Dive

Nick is planning another dive off the pier on New Year’s Day; if you are feeling mad, brave, or just in need of a sobering dip after all the festivities, come along ! Meet up about midday, further details will be sent out nearer the time.

Up and Coming ... details of forthcoming events

Christmas Party

Our Christmas party is on Friday 8th December at the Lookout Cafe, Durlston, at 7.30 pm. We’ve had a really good response and it looks like being a great evening. The Cafe has both beer and wine available (house wine approx £10 per bottle), though Sally has kindly agreed that members can bring their own wine with no corkage fee, so please feel free to do so if you’d like to.

Don’t forget to bring along a gift wrapped raffle prize !

Monthly Meal - January

So with our party serving as December’s monthly nosh up, onto January. Hopefully you won’t have started the New Year diets and you’ll be able to come along for an Italian at Piccolo Mondo in Wimborne on Wednesday 10th January. I’ve had good reports about their pizzas !
